Parasitoses intestinais em comunidade indígena Potiguara Catu (RN): avaliação preliminar para diagnóstico situacional e subsídios para ações educativas e de controle. 2025. 56 f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Ciências Biológicas) – Centro de Biociências, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2025, Natal, 2025.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/67153The intestinal parasitosis remains an important public health problem in historically vulnerable populations, especially indigenous communities that are susceptible to multiple socioenvironmental iniquities. This research, that is part of a master’s degree project ongoing at the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Biologia Parasitária (PPgBP/UFRN), has the goal of evaluate first and foremost the occurrence of enteroparasitosis at the indigenous community Potiguara Catu (Rio Grande do Norte), identifying factors associated to the transmission of these parasites and support actions for health education. It’s a cross-sectional study that involves 28 participants, to each were applied socioepidemiological surveys and undertaken parasitological stool tests using the Hoffman-Pons-Janer (HPJ) and Faust methods. From the participants, 89,3% tested positive for at least one intestinal protozoan. The most regular species was the Endolimax nana (85,7%), followed by Entamoeba coli (46,4%) and Giardia lamblia (14,3%). The analysis of the health conditions revealed inconsistent hygiene habits and the water consumption coming predominantly from well water, in which 35,7% of the participants didn’t treat the water in any way. Those findings emphasize an interaction between the biological and the social, structural and cultural factors, reinforcing the persistence of tropical diseases that are disregarded in the indigenous contexts. Based on the results, it was developed an educational booklet with an intercultural approach, intended to support actions in health education and reinforce community preventive practices. The research highlights the necessity of integrated policies for sanitation, vigilance and health education, that are culturally contextualized, aiming to the reduction of vulnerability and strengthening of the sanitary autonomy of the Potiguara Catu community.pt-BRAttribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/EnteroparasitoVigilância epidemiológicaSaúde indígenaDoenças negligenciadasEducação em saúdeParasitoses intestinais em comunidade indígena Potiguara Catu (RN): Avaliação preliminar para diagnóstico situacional e subsídios para ações educativas e de controlebachelorThesisCIENCIAS BIOLOGICAS
