In research carried out during the Iniciação Científica, which culminates in this article for TCC, georeferencing of the sesmarias contained in the oldest document on the land issue in Rio Grande do Norte, the Auto de Repartição de Terras (1614), was carried out. This tool allowed us to raise several hypotheses about the beginning of Iberian colonization in the Capitania, relating it to time and space based on historiography. The georeferencing technique was generated using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, which made it possible to identify several sesmarias that were established in known locations at the time.
