The action research approach was used to train the team of a Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Food and Nutrition Surveillance within the municipality of Currais Novos, Rio Grande do Norte. The study was based on the Matrix for Organizing Food and Nutrition Care in Primary Health Care. Initially, a situational diagnosis was conducted through a structured questionnaire to identify the professionals' prior knowledge about FNS in their practice. Based on this analysis, two structured workshops were held. A lack of information on the subject in Primary Care was identified, resulting in significant gaps in the professionals' daily practices. The workshops, employing active methodologies, were essential in promoting information exchange and encouraging collaborative work.
