In this way, it aims to propose a didactic sequence for working on the colonial period through a letter of sesmaria, a document that permeated the practice of granting land in Brazil during the colonial period, this being a determining mechanism for colonization of the country. In addition, this work also seeks to point out ways of using this record through the bibliography of authors who work on education and the teaching of history, as well as researchers who are specialists on the study of the colonial period and the land issue.
