Materials and Methods: This study adopts an exploratory methodological approach, approved by the Ethics and Research Committee (UFRN/FACISA - opinion no. 5,546,016) and (LIGA/RN - opinion no. PP 2342). Individuals diagnosed with neoplasia, with or without a sensation of dyspnea, aged ≥ 18 years, of both sexes, regardless of the stage of the disease, undergoing treatment in oncology centers or support associations for cancer patients were included, while those with hearing impairment, cognitive impairment, or hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU) were excluded. The study followed COSMIN and Beaton et al., which comprised seven stages: translation and initial synthesis, back-translation and synthesis, evaluation by the expert committee, report by the original author, pretest, and finally the analysis of psychometric properties. Results: A total of 101 participants were included (4 translators, 6 professionals on the expert committee, 30 subjects in the pre-test phase, and 61 individuals from the target population). In the expert committee phase, we considered the CVI ≥ 0.83 per item, and in the pre-test, the CVI ≥ 0.90. In the psychometric properties phase, we considered construct validity, which indicated that the data adjustments were adequate, but the variables were not correlated. In convergent, discriminant, and concurrent validity, we obtained weak to moderate correlations. Conclusion: The CDS was satisfactorily adapted to Brazilian Portuguese when considering the CVI values; however, when analyzing the psychometric properties, we observed that the evaluation of the scale can yield biased and imprecise results when assessing dyspnea in individuals with cancer. Therefore, it is recommended to increase the sample size.Acesso AbertoCâncerEstudo da validaçãoDispneiaInstrumento de avaliação de dispneia em indivíduos com câncer: validação da Cancer Dyspnoea Scale para o português brasileiroCancer dyspnea assessment tool in individuals with cancer: validation of the Cancer Dyspnea Scale for Brazilian PortuguesemasterThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE
