Those texts try to avail the distribution of the solid waste production in Brazil, which allows the definition of interests and convergences through analytical classes. The process took place in two stages: screening and analysis, using the Iramuteq software for lexicometric analysis. Furthermore, the searched database used was the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CTD/Capes). In total, 51 dissertations and one thesis were cataloged, totaling 52, distributed in 31 programs. The result shows that the Universidade de Pernambuco concentrates eight types of research in the Master's and Doctoral Program in Local Development, followed by the Graduate Program of the Universidade Federal do Fluminense, with six, and the Graduate Program of Unihorizontes and Uninove, both with three. In addition, the types of waste: urban solids and commercial establishments were the most frequent, while municipalities and Higher Education Institutions were the main objects of study. Also, the processing of IraMuteq generated the Descending Hierarchical Classification, which structured the classes methodological procedures, waste management and society, and, more specifically, the national policy on solid waste and environmental management.
