Its general objective is to investigate, through theoretical and documentary references, the importance of autonomy for the learning and development of children. In relation to the specific objectives, we seek to reflect on autonomy as a right of the child as an active, historical and rights-bearing subject, as well as highlighting the articulation of autonomy from the perspective of Participatory Pedagogy, considering the organization of spaces, times and materials. This study is configured as a qualitative research with a bibliographic basis, based on the ideas of authors such as Piaget, Vygotsky, Freire, Montessori, Fochi and Oliveira-Formosinho, in addition to scientific articles, theses and dissertations. In view of this, the study recognizes the possibilities of participatory pedagogy in the construction of more humanized, democratic and meaningful educational environments, respecting the rhythms, times and interests of childhood.
