Objective: Evaluate the effect of implementing a quality improvement cycle on the patient identification process. Methodology: Involves the implementation of an internal, observational and intervention improvement cycle, using a almost experimental design, before and after, with a quantitative approach, in an Intensive Care Center. Were developed seven criteria to assess the quality of identification process. The results of intervention were subjected to statistical analysis and presented in Pareto graph, to demonstrate the level of improvement. Results: The quality of the identification process showed a significant improvement in the values referring to fulfillment of conformities in evaluated criteria. Statistical significance (p <0.001) was observed in the assessments of criteria C1, C2, C3, C4 and C6, with an increase in compliance values after the intervention of improvement cycle. Conclusions: The present study showed that the improvement cycle realized with the aim of improving the quality of patient identification process proved to be effective.
