Aimed, therefore, to analyze the photo album in order to understand the historical representations contained in the images in the context of the commemorations of the centenary of the law that implemented public education in the country. The theme proved to be relevant when answering the guiding question: what historical representations are contained in the photographic records of the album destined to celebrate the centenary of the law of schools of first letters, in Rio Grande do Norte? We are theoretically based on concepts such as history, memory and photography as a source. Through the iconographic analysis of the album, we found that it contains celebrations in the state capital and inland cities, being part of a program of celebrations for public instruction, organized by the Director of the Department of Education, with the support of the Governor at the time. Thus, history and memory, from the analysis of the photo album commemorating the centenary of the law of October 15, 1827, corroborate our understanding that celebrating the public instruction law of 1827 was to express that the State and its management were aligned with education and the process to modernize instruction.EducaçãoEducationMemóriaMemoryFotografiaPhotographyHistoryHistóriaCelebrações do centenário da lei de 1827 no Rio Grande do Norte: história e(em) imagemCelebrations of the centenary of the 1827 law in Rio Grande do Norte: history and (in) imagebachelorThesis
