Toxic agents, such as arsenic (As), are commonly found in the marine environment and traces of them in aquatic organisms. Thus, fish and its derivatives are considered an important source of arsenic exposure and contamination for humans. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out an effective assessment of the concentrations of arsenic and other contaminants in fish meat in order to reduce the risk to the population. In view of the above, the objective of this study was to determine the total arsenic content in three samples of mullet fish (Mugil sp.) purchased commercially in the city of Natal/RN, to verify whether they comply with the limits established by Brazilian legislation. The samples were analyzed in duplicate using the hydride generation technique by molecular absorption spectrophotometry, using the silver diethyldithiocarbamate method.
