Therefore, this article aims to discuss the main obstacles faced by students who work and study and present strategies for overcoming this reality. To this end, the experience of an Pedagogy student is discussed, weaving relationships between her experiences and the literature studied. The study reflects on the impacts of this intense routine on mental health, academic performance and personal relationships. From there, as results, it is observed that the duality between work and study requires characteristics such as organization, discipline and resilience, in addition to highlighting the need for institutional support and more active student assistance. The results highlight the overload and stress faced by these students, especially in the Brazilian socioeconomic context, where a large proportion of university students belong to the working class. Furthermore, it is observed that the distance learning modality requires greater autonomy, sometimes intensifying the challenges.
