The objective of the research is to understand how the School Council acts in school management. This is descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, aimed at aspects that refer to the School Council's responsibilities, its composition, the profile of its members and how the body relates to the administrative team in a given teaching unit. To make the research results feasible, interviews were conducted with the members of the School Council of a public high school. The data obtained were treated using the content analysis technique. In summary, the results suggest that, in the researched teaching unit, the members of the School Council demonstrated that they understand the importance of the work they need to perform. In the view of the subjects, the body is sovereign in its decisions, not suffering interference from the management team in its actions, a factor that gives to the collegiate body freedom and autonomy to act. However, in the practical context, documents such as the School Regiment and the Political Pedagogical Project are ignored by some counselors and members of the school community, there is no prior training for those who join the body, the participation of parents is practically null and the essence of collegiate management by means of broad integration needs to be improved. Concretely, it was not clear whether each councilor is aware of the set of attributions and competences delegated to the School Council.
