Through this work and from the collection of articles found in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), we can identify trends, gaps and areas of greater scientific production on the subject, contributing to a better understanding of the phenomenon and to the improvement of health care practices. Method: integrative review carried out in the VHL (Virtual Health Library) which encompasses several national and international databases. In this search, 64 articles were found, where inclusion and exclusion criteria were used by title and abstract, duplicate title, text unavailable in the database, free texts not found, and works that did not answer the research question, 12 studies were selected, read in full for recording and extracting aspects of interest. Results: The 12 selected studies were conducted between 2015 and 2020, with emphasis on Brazil with 10 studies, and Chile and Cuba with 1 study each. Among the methods used in the studies, 9 had qualitative characteristics and 3 had quantitative characteristics. Nursing care strategies for patients with suicidal behavior were identified in 100% of the studies, with the most cited being continuing education (8 studies) and overcoming stigmas and prejudices (6 studies). No mention was made of nursing theories.
