The objective of the present study is to understand how female protagonism influences the process of local development. With regard to the theoretical discussions that constitute this work, our endorsements depart from the concepts exposed on family agriculture, associativism, gender relations and empowerment. The research was characterized as being qualitative, since the data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed through the technique of content analysis. On the data analyzes, excerpts from the interviews were made using specific categories to detect traits of empowerment.
