2019. 47f. Dissertação (Mestrado em Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental) - Centro de Tecnologia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/jspui/handle/123456789/27233Slow sand filtration is a technology used for the treatment of water since the 19th century, which can be an alternative to conventional water treatment techniques, since it doesn’t uses chemical products and it is of simple operation. In addition, it is capable of treating the water of coastal tropical lagoons, which typically have low turbidity and low color. In this research, two configurations of slow sand filters in pilot scale were constructed and operated, with uniformity coefficients of 3 and 4. The slow sand filters, after biofilm development, showed values of turbidity (0.80 NTU), and true color (14 uC), in addition to the absence of E. Coli, all within the Brazilian potability standards.
