This study focuses on equipping medical students with concepts related to psychological suffering, which is crucial for meeting the needs of the Brazilian population. The main objective was to evaluate the pedagogical strategies employed in the curricular component 'Integrated Community Experience' (VIC) at the Multi-Campus School of Medical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (EMCM/UFRN), with a focus on the integration of mental health. The research, qualitative and exploratory-descriptive in nature, allowed for an in-depth analysis of the Competency Curriculum in Family and Community Medicine (CCMFC), investigating how the described competencies align with the practical activities developed in the VICs. An analytical reading of the CCMFC was conducted to identify connections between the described competency areas and practical activities, proposing recommendations to optimize the incorporation of mental health into current pedagogical practices.
