Fatores determinantes para a má qualidade do sono em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva: uma revisão. 18 f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Fisioterapia) - Departamento de Fisioterapia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/35899A good sleep quality is essential to the well-being and to physical and mental health. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients’ sleep is often described as insufficient and fragmented with larger periods of light sleep and short periods of restorative sleep. Poor sleep quality in this environment is caused by multiple factors and involves extrinsic, intrinsic and both pathological and physiological factors. The aim of this study is to review the literature on sleep quality in critically ill patients to identify the main aspects that are determinant for poor sleep quality in ICUs. A research was done in the PubMed electronic database, using the descriptors: sleep, sleep quality and intensive care unit, where 604 articles were found but only 6 included all the main criteria for this study. The articles reveal the multiple factors of ICU sleep stressors and point out extrinsic factors – noise, constant illumination and care interventions; intrinsic factors – pre-existing sleep disorders, anxiety and pain; as well as pathophysiological factors – organic dysfunctions and psychosis. By analyzing the literature in question, it was possible to observe that the sleep of critically ill patients is significantly interrupted in ICUs due to the patient's conditions and factors that are inherent to the intensive care environment. Due to the complexity of sleep, its analysis in critically ill patients is still scarce and therefore requires further studies. However, the need to improve sleep quality in the ICU is unquestionable, hence all healthcare professionals must be involved to reduce sleep stressors and provide a favorable environment to good sleep quality.sonoqualidade do sonounidade de terapia intensivaFatores determinantes para a má qualidade do sono em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva: uma revisãobachelorThesis
