The research presents the case of the library at Lauro de Castro State School reflecting about the reading activity practices developed in the school library by its regular’s teachers. It uses as methodological procedures the bibliographic research in printed and digital sources to construct the literature review. It is carried out interviews to identify the activities developed in the studied school library. The study presents documents that guide the implementation of a school library, showing its definition, mission, importance, and activities developed to promote teaching and learning. It describes the main activities highlighted in the literature to serve a school community and documents that guide the activities and evaluation of the services offered by the school library. It explains how the State Department of Education, Sports, and Leisure of Rio Grande do Norte has been promoting reading in the state’s school libraries. The results include various documents that demonstrate the value of the school library for teaching and learning, noting advances in service provision that began during the colonial period and in the current activities developed by the school library.
