In this perspective, we seek to understand and what is their real social reality and how it affects the lives of its residents. We use as object of this study João XXIII neighborhood in the city of Caicó-RN, which falls within the segregation phenomenon. This is a process that requires the disadvantaged poor quality of life, an exclusion the necessary rights to all citizens. To this end, we conducted interviews with the population, as well as analyze the space and information acquired. Thus, we find that excluded the city took up residence on the outskirts of the metropolis caicoense, giving rise to the neighborhood with slum feature from its formation to the present day. Environmental study, people were forced to live there, not to pay the high value of the property and land in the central area or elsewhere in town, as the metropolis grew from center, following the center-periphery pattern that is characteristic of most Brazilian cities. From that juncture, it was determined that the best spaces, with quality infrastructure and all rights fit to the high-income class, while the missing places of urban facilities and adequate infrastructure, while the poor would be places for the class of smaller financial power, would be for the class of smaller financial power, causing, thus, segregation and exclusion of the poor.openAccessAttribution 3.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/Caicó, Segregação, Desigualdade social.Caicó, segregation, social inequality.Segregação urbana e o reflexo das desigualdades sociais: um estudo sobre o bairro João XXIII na cidade de Caicó-RNbachelorThesis
