This has led governments to create laws and regulations to discipline waste management practices. In Brazil, Law No. 12,305 10, which establishes the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) established important management and control instruments, and solid waste plans are one of the main and most important of these, and can be elaborated at national level. state, municipal as well as generator level. The Solid Waste Management Plan (PGRS), is a document that defines proper management guidelines for all waste that is generated in the establishment, determining process control and monitoring strategies, in order to avoid improper disposal / disposal that may generate pollution to the environment and cause harm to public health. Thus, this work aimed to elaborate a proposal of Solid Waste Management Plan for the Escola de Ciências e Tecnologia , specialized academic unit of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. To elaborate the proposal, a diagnosis of the current situation of waste management was made, using as a data collection tool, interviews and onsite visits, as well as the characterization of common waste through gravimetry. From the diagnosis it was possible to identify some nonconformities in the practices of segregation, collection, storage and final disposal and propose improvements in all management stages, as well as suggest programs to be implemented, aiming to improve waste management.
