Thus, the treatment of soil and wastewater contaminated by organic compounds has been the object of attention for the scientific and industrial community. A promising alternative in this sense is the use of electrochemical technologies that have been demonstrating a high efficiency for the removal of these compounds, in a sustainable, effective way and using a shorter treatment time if compared to other technologies. In order to evaluate the efficiency of electrochemical technology, this work studied the use of Electrokinetic Remediation for the treatment of soil contaminated with Methyl Orange dye. Two experiments were carried out using graphite electrodes such as anodes and cathodes. It was investigated the addition of drinking water (Exp-1) and electrolytic solution of 0.05 M Sodium Sulphate (Exp-2) in the anodic reservoirs. Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate electrolyte solution at 3.46 mM was added to the cathodic reservoirs of both experiments. The results showed that Exp-2 was more efficient in decreasing the chemical oxygen demand (COD), due to the greater contribution of electro migration and electro-osmosis. The soil toxicity investigation was performed via the percentages of germination of sunflower seeds, which in central regions reached 88% for Exp. 2 and 66% for Exp- 1. In the portions near the electrodes, the pH negatively influenced the results. The effluent generated during the soil treatment was treated by electrochemical oxidation using Titanium and Boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes as anodes and cathodes. There were better results in the reduction of the organic matter of the effluent when it's been applied current of 60 mA cm -2 , in which the complete mineralization of the organic matter occurred with 120 min of treatment. The increase of the concentration of the persulfate ions during the electrochemical oxidation was more notorious in Exp-2. It was concluded that the Electrokinetic Remediation was efficient for the removal of the Methyl Orange dye from the soil, and that the addition of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and Sodium Sulphate contributed to this result, favoring the electromigration and electro-osmosis processes. The results also demonstrate the possibility of using treated soil for cultivation and reuse of the effluent generated during the treatment.openAccessRemediação EletrocinéticaTecnologia IntegradaToxicidade do soloíndices de GerminaçãoOxidação EletroquímicaAplicação de tratamentos eletroquímicos para remediação de solo contaminado por coranteApplication of electrochemical treatments for remediation of dye contaminated soilbachelorThesis
