Prótese parcial removível em PEEK confeccionada por fluxo de trabalho digital: relato de caso. 2022. 41f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Odontologia) - Departamento de Odontologia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/46143The use of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) techniques makes it possible to manufacture removable partial denture (RPD) structures with aesthetic materials. Among the materials available, Polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) is a high-strength, aesthetic and non-allergic thermoplastic polymer, which has recently become a candidate for replacing metallic components in dental prostheses. The present study aimed to report a clinical case where the structure of a RPD was manufactured from the digital workflow, using PEEK as the material of choice, compared to a RPD made with a structure in cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr), evaluating the clinical performance of dentures, the impact of oral health on quality of life and patient preference. After 15 days of using each prosthesis, clinical performance, oral health impact on quality of life were evaluated using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) and patient preference. It is concluded that the CAD / CAM technology was able to assist in the manufacture of PEEK structure, which proved to be advantageous over the conventional structure with regard to aesthetic standards and weight, however, it presented lower retention compared to the structure Co-Cr, the OHIP result showed that the use of both prostheses did not negatively impact quality of life. We emphasize that clinical studies with longitudinal follow-up need to be conducted.
