This method has been developed over the years and seeks to reduce the environmental impacts caused by toxic reagents as well as the use of low-cost raw materials. Four databases, Scopus, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink and Web of Science, were used to search for scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals.. 17 paper were selected to be analyzed. The synthesis methods used in the selected articles are combustion, microwave, hydrothermal and sol-gel. In these studies, the synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, XDS, DRS and VSM. Through the analysis of the characterization results, it was found that in all cases, the authors produced monophasic zinc ferrite with homogeneous chemical composition and that, regardless of the method and the green reagent used, temperature is the parameter that has the greatest influence on size of crystallites. There is no uniformity regarding the morphology when the same synthesis method was considered, this property is attributed to the different reaction mechanisms of the different green reagents used. In general, all materials produced by the authors absorb energy in the visible range and present low bandgap values. The magnetization results do not present an agreement regarding the values or classification of the material.
