Qual o impacto da pandemia da COVID-19 nos indicadores de qualidade de um programa de triagem auditiva neonatal? 2022. 56f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Fonoaudiologia) - Departamento de Fonoaudiologia, Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, RN, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/46234Objectives: To analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality indicators of the neonatal hearing screening (NHS) program in a public maternity and to characterize the risk indicators for hearing loss (RIHL) of the surveyed population. Methods: This is a quanti-qualitative, retrospective observational reserch tried out in a public maternity hospital in Rio Grande do Norte. The total sample consisted of 9508 newborns (NB), divided into two groups: G1, with 4100 NB who were born between January/2019 and March 10/2020, characterized as the pre-pandemic period; and G2, with 5408 live births between March 11/2020 and May/2021, considered peri-pandemic. Scheduling flow, absenteeism rate, age of newborns in NHS, percentage of failure and referral for diagnosis, pre and peri-pandemic NHS coverage, in addition to cities, RIHL and number of preterm newborns were analyzed. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed, with a 5% significance level. Results: Out of the 9508 live births, 6411 underwent NHS at the surveyed maternity. The average percentage of coverage was 65.34% in G1 and 69.64% in G2, without statistical difference between the two groups (p=0.890). There was a change in the scheduling flow for predominantly before hospital discharge at peri-pandemic period, which reflected in the reduction of age in the NHS. When comparing the groups, similar indices of "pass" result were obtained in the test stage, referral for retest, quantitative number of screened NB at the recommended age and occurrence of RIHL; on the other hand, the rate of absenteeism in the retest was higher for G2 (p<0.001) and the referral rate for audiological diagnosis was higher for G1 (p<0.001). Hyperbilirubinemia, aminoglycosides use and the permanence in the NICU were the most frequent RIHL in both groups and prematurity was present in 25.8% of neonates in G1 and 21.1% in G2. There was a predominance of state capital residents' both for the newborns and for those who missed the screening. Conclusion: The restructuring of the NHS program during the COVID-19 pandemic did not reflect a reduction in NHS coverage. In reverse, there was a slight improvement in coverage rates, age of NHS performance and referral rate for diagnosis. The rate of evasion in the retest was negatively influenced by the period of social distancing.
