However, some bridges designed to connect large distances are being used as a support for the urban expansion due to the urban growth, causing long and short distance traffic to coincide with demands for the bridge’s infrastructure, making it’s previous function, that was guideline to the investment, obsolete. This article aims to present a case study on a medium-sized inland city in the Rio Grande do Norte state that has a remote access bridge that allowed the formation of an urban occupation in it’s south side that merged with the urban settlement located in it’s surroundings, making the bridge obsolete due to the coincidence of urban and inter-urban traffic demands. To assess the case in question, a volumetric counting was performed to determinate the Service Level of the road in addition to a field research to evaluate the conformity of the bridge with the current norms and legislation.
