Literature serves as an important tool for addressing food-related social issues in an intersectional manner. This study aimed to analyze the novel Torto Arado by Itamar Vieira Junior as a potential educational tool that associates the competencies in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) of the Brazilian National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC) with the Human Right to Adequate Food (HRAF) for FNE with adolescents. This research employed a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach, guided by Bardin's content analysis to interpret food-related and social issues present in selected excerpts of the book. The theoretical framework was based on the key concepts of the (HRAF), the six HSS competencies from the BNCC, and the principles of the FNE Reference Framework for Public Policies. The results revealed thematic excerpts from the novel corresponding to all HSS competencies of the BNCC, which were analyzed by associating the key concepts of HRAF and the principles of FNE, offering pedagogical action possibilities using the novel as a teaching tool. Therefore, Torto Arado presents opportunities to work with FNE and the concepts of HRAF among high school adolescents, and its recognized use by the National Program of Supplemental Books in public and private schools in Brazil should be encouraged.
