Collection management is the management of a library's collection. On the other hand, the wedding is the stage in charge of the renovation of the collection with the removal of materials from the shelves, in order to promote space for new documents. Thinking about the quality of the collection and the need of the community, which is continuously updated, it is evident that the practice of wedding plays a relevant role in the formation of a collection. In this way, the steps to perform the wedding are presented here, correlated to the information management phases proposed by Davenport (1998), namely: determination of requirements, obtaining, distribution and use of information. In the methodological procedures, a case study is presented in a university library that presents a favorable situation to study the wedding, in front of which one tries trying to specify the steps adopted in each one of the stages lived in the place. Finally, it should be noted that for the library to have an up-to-date collection that can serve the public, collection management is an activity that deserves attention from the librarianAttribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/br/gestão de coleçõesdesbastegestão da informaçãobblioteca universitáriacollection managementweedinginformation managementuniversity libraryO processo de desbaste à luz da gestão da informação: o caso de uma biblioteca universitáriaThe weeding process in the light of information management: the case of a university libraryarticlehttps://doi.org/10.21680/2447-0198.2019v3n0ID15925
