An example of this are the stigmatizing preconceptions attributed to certain publics, such as sex workers and their impact on the access of these women to their rights. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the health care and public policies aimed at sex workers, in the context of the reception offered by professionals in Primary Health Care in the municipality of Caicó, Rio Grande do Norte. This is a descriptive and exploratory research, with a qualitative approach. Data collection relied on semi-structured interviews with Community Health Agents, Nurses, Doctors and Dentists working in the Basic Health Units that are territorial reference of the brothels in the municipality. Subsequently, the information was worked through Bardin's content analysis, which was grouped into three thematic categories for discussion, these being: Construction of bonds between health professionals and sex workers: how many steps separate utopia and reality?; Education as an instrument for transforming realities; The paradigm of sexual health: primary care and its potentialities for breaking with conservative practices. The results of the data collection and analysis made it possible to understand in a broader way the access and offer of health services in primary care to sex workers and how this public is seen, treated and welcomed by health professionals. It was possible to notice that these women have low adherence to the services offered in primary care, which may be linked to socially rooted issues, such as patriarchal gender relations, which interfere with the relationships established between users, professionals and health services. Moreover, the importance of continuing education in the continuity of the professional training process was also highlighted, as well as the potential of primary care and its territorial coverage for the promotion of care and social transformation.
