Therefore, it is necessary to adequately treat effluents that have this type of contamination. This work proposes to innovate the treatment of swimming pool water using electrochemical processes, more precisely anodic oxidation focusing on the degradation of octocrylene from commercial sunscreens, in order to minimize toxic substances, combined with a simplified methodology for detecting and quantifying this component. After degradation, some parameters of the water quality index were monitored, results such as pH (7.4 t = 0 min - 4.4 t = 180 min), chloride content (0.002M), current density 10mA/cm², chemical oxygen demand ([COD]/[COD]0 = 0.2), conductivity (1091mS/cm t = 0min - 0 mS/cm t = 180min) and turbidity (93.5 t = 0min - 5.64 t = 180min) were found and corroborated the degradation of organic matter. Energy consumption was analyzed throughout the electrolysis. In addition, a comparative study was carried out between the electroanalysis and chromatography techniques for the detection and quantification of octocrylene in pool water, obtaining promising results for the electroanalytical technique of differential pulse voltammetry. The detection and quantification limits of octocrylene from a 0.001 M standard solution were, respectively, 0.11 mg/L and 0.35 mg/L via electroanalysis and 2.86 mg/L and 9.54 mg/L via chromatography. It was possible to observe that electroanalysis was able to quantify octocrylene throughout electrolysis and in real sunscreen samples without significant difference in relation to chromatography.
