The study was based on current legislation on Environmental Education, which establishes it as an essential and permanent component of national education (National Environmental Education Policy, Law No. 9.795/1999) and as a transformative and emancipatory practice (Resolution No. 2/2012 of the National Education Council). In addition, it was based on authors who address the impacts of deforestation such as Silva et al. (2018), Fernandes and Medeiros (2009) and Machado (2012), as well as authors who addressed Environmental Education and children's perception of deforestation such as Torres Junior, Valença-Montenegro and Castro (2018) and Pedrini, Costa and Ghilardi (2010). This is an experience report developed in a public school that included a lecture with the participation of an environmental professional, group dynamics and practical activities, such as collecting and sorting recyclable materials. These activities encouraged students to participate by asking questions, reflecting on the characteristics of forests, the impacts of deforestation and the importance of environmental preservation. The results indicated that the students have satisfactory knowledge of the subject, demonstrating critical awareness of climate and social issues related to deforestation in their community.
