The transformation of mythical characters into heroes is characteristic of cordel literature. In view of this, we sought to identify elements referring to the cordel present in the work “Lampião e Lancelote” by Fernando Vilela, which addresses the relationship between the northeastern cangaceiro Lampião and the European character Lancelote from Arthurian legends. To support the work, we used texts that discuss cordel literature and illustrated books (Faria, 2004; Linden, 2011; Barbosa, 2015; Evaristo, 2000; Freitas, 2023; Peregrino, 1984). The relationship addressed in the narrative favors children's perception of the wealth generated by a cultural intersection. The structure of the text in verses, the use of rhymes, the technique similar to hatching applied in the illustrations, the contrast between colors, geometric shapes and the representative trace of carved wood in the composition of the woodcuts together with the rich text-image relationship These are elements of the cordel identified in the work.
