In the last decades, with the economic and industrial development, the consumption of products has increased and with that the production of residues has increased. The present work aims to describe how the importance of health and safety management in activities in the collection and disposal of waste can directly influence the reduction of the rate of accidents at work in organizations. Methodology: this is a literature review, where the inclusion and exclusion criteria and selection of articles from the period from 2010 to 2022 were used. Results and Discussion: When analyzing the data referring to accidents at work in the period from 2007 to 2009, there was an increase in this index when compared to the period from 2004 to 2006. Regarding the risks of accidents at work, they come from contaminated materials such as needles, glass, among other perforating and cutting materials or even leftover waste. One way to eliminate these risks would be through the Preliminary Risk Analysis. Conclusion: regardless of which model the organization adopts, it is pointed out that a safety culture must be determined by the interactions between the social and physical factors of the work environment, as well as by individual perceptions and attitudes and must strongly contribute to the improving safety in organizations and preventing accidents.
