Research Strategy: This integrative review was based on studies taken from four databases: Medline/PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and CINAHL with analysis of studies in English, Portuguese and Spanish, in relation to acute respiratory syndromes in oropharyngeal dysphagia in the population a from 60 years of residents of longstay institutions for the elderly published throughout the period of time reading the titles and abstracts of the studies found in the search to select those that would be read in full and thus identify the articles that would be included in this review. The searches were carried out from may to june 2020. Results: 14 studies were included in which, the main acute respiratory syndrome listed was aspiration pneumonia, caused by oropharyngeal dysphagia, along with poor oral hygiene, cognitive decline, motor impairment and emotional / psychological factors. Conclusion: The main impacts of acute respiratory syndromes on oropharyngeal dysphagia were the increase in episodes of aspiration, growth of malnutrition, loss of muscle mass and fat, worsening cognitive decline, deterioration of the motor function of the elderly, the complication of other comorbidities and diseases, the expansion of psychological and emotional damage, increased isolation and fear in times of food and the demand for more complex care by institutions and their caregivers.disfagia orofaríngea, pneumonia aspirativa, idoso institucionalizado, síndromes respiratórias agudas, revisão.oropharyngeal dysphagia, aspiration pneumonia, institutionalized elderly, acute respiratory syndromes, review.bachelorThesis
