Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Licenciatura em Letras – Língua Portuguesa e Literaturas) – Departamento de Letras, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2025.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/61839This paper presents a reading of Pepetela's novel A Geração da Utopia (1991) with the aim of verifying, based on fiction, how the situation of the diaspora affects those who experience it. As a theoretical basis, authors such as Bonnici (2005, 2012) and Leite (2012) were consulted to address postcolonial literary criticism, Stuart Hall (2003, 2006) and Said (2003) to discuss diaspora and exile in the post-World War II world, Santos (2003), Höring (2015) and Gonçalves (2004) to address Portuguese colonization and the Angolan decolonization process, in addition to Mata (1999), Filho (2023), Laranjeira (1995) and Chaves (1999) to discuss the author Pepetela and his literary work. In this sense, the work has a bibliographical character, as it is based on texts by other authors. Due to the internal organization of the novel, we chose to analyze four different characters, Sara, Mundial, Aníbal and Malongo, one in each chapter, as this would allow us to characterize the effects of exile on the diasporic community. In this way, we conclude that these characters are affected by the diasporic condition, mainly by the problems inherited due to European colonialism.
