In dentistry it began to be used in 1935 and currently there are many published works in this area. Most articles published in the area are based on the antimicrobial effects of ozone in the treatment of dental caries. Objective: To provide reliable, prominent and indispensable information about ozone therapy, in addition to analyzing, compiling and presenting the results of the application of ozone therapy in the treatment of caries. Methodology: This is a literature review whose selection of articles took place in the following databases: PubMed, Scielo, Embase, Scopus and Web Of Science. Publications written in English, Portuguese and Spanish from 2012 to 2022 were considered. Results: Among seven studies on the effect of ozone on the remineralization of tooth structure, five affirm the remineralizing potential of the use of ozone and two studies were contrary. And when analyzing twelve studies on the antibacterial and antimicrobial effectiveness of ozone, most proved that ozone is effective against some bacteria that cause dental caries such as Streptococcus mutans, and Lactobacillus paracasei. Regarding the clinical and microbiological efficacy of ozone, this substance proved to be highly effective in preventing cases of deep caries from resulting in pulpotomy. Furthermore, it was observed that in deep caries ozone therapy promoted lower levels of pain and less need for endodontic treatment compared to a conventional treatment protocol of total caries removal. Conclusions: Studies have shown that ozone therapy contributes to a treatment with more chances of success, with an antibacterial effect, in addition to generating patient satisfaction because it is painless, with less invasive techniques and better prognosis.OzônioOzoneCárieCariesRevisãoReviewOzonioterapia no tratamento da cárie: uma revisão integrativa da literaturaOzoniotherapy in caries treatment: an integrative literature reviewbachelorThesis
