Ponto de corte da circunferência da panturrilha no rastreio da sarcopenia em idosos comunitários do nordeste brasileiro: resultados do estudo PRO-EVA. 2020. 56f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Fisioterapia) - Departamento de Fisioterapia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2020.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/35942Introduction: Aging brings with it several changes, among which musculoskeletal disorders are the most common and sarcopenia is one of them, in which it is characterized by the progressive and generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass. Its most reliable diagnosis depends on high-cost techniques. However, the evaluation of the calf circumference measurement can be a way of screening for sarcopenia considering its good correlation with muscle mass, its easy applicability and its low cost. The use of universal data brings with it a screening full of flaws and the literature recommends the use of local anthropometric data specific to each country or region to minimize reproducibility errors. Objective: To identify the ideal cutoff point for the calf circumference in the screening for sarcopenia in community-dwelling older people from Northeast Brazil. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out with 778 community-dwelling older people, aged over 60 years of both sexes. Data were collected in 6 Basic Health Units (UBS) in the city of Parnamirim in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). Socioeconomic and anthropometric data, handgrip strength and skeletal muscle mass were analyzed. Results: The cutoff pointthe most appropriate calf circumference for screening for sarcopenia was 30 cm and the prevalence of sarcopenics was 7.6%. The women were 66.1%, almost double the percentage of the men in the sample. The mean age in years was higher in the sarcopenic group (74.2 ± 8.4). The mean CP measurement was lower in the group classified as sarcopenic, which had an average of 29.8 (± 2.3) cm, while the one classified as non-sarcopenic, 33.1 (± 3.6) cm. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there was a relationship between the measurement of CP and the measures of muscle mass and grip strength, making it possible to identify the cut-off point of 30 cm for the calf circumference in screening for sarcopenia in community-dwelling older people in the Northeast, showing that this value may vary according to the location and characteristics of the population.EnvelhecimentoSarcopeniaMúsculo EsqueléticoPonto de corte da circunferência da panturrilha no rastreio da sarcopenia em idosos comunitários do nordeste brasileiro: resultados do estudo PRO-EVAbachelorThesis
