It is, therefore, responsible for the care of acute and chronic conditions with regulated access, to care on a referenced or spontaneous demand, seeking to guarantee the quality of care provision and patient safety. The present work is justified by the need to identify and describe the types of hospital establishments in the 1st Health Region with the objective of preparing a situational diagnosis in order to contribute to a reflection on improving the process of regionalization of public health services in the State of RN.Objective: Present a situational diagnosis of health establishments in the 1st Health Region of Rio Grande do Norte, specifically hospital units.Methodology:This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study covering the period 2023.1, with a quantitative approach, supported by secondary data extracted from the National Registry of Health Establishments, on the Brazilian Government Portal. It consists of a report about the experience in a supervised internship at the Hospital Care Subcoordination of the Public Health Secretariat of Rio Grande do Norte, in the city of Natal. Results: The 1st Health Region of RN comprises 27 municipalities. It has 08 small hospital units, with 02 regional hospitals and 06 municipal hospitals, which together offer 223 SUS beds, distributed in 08 municipalities to serve a region with a population of 379,892 inhabitants. The results indicate a still modest scenario for what would be ideal for the population of the 1st Health Region.Conclusion: Our study managed to collect the information for what was proposed, regarding the demographic survey and identification of hospital units in the 1st Health Region of RN, bringing the legal nature, management, care profile and quantity of beds, according to the information updated from the CNES, in 2024.
