To achieve the proposed objective, methodological procedures were adopted based on a bibliographic survey, cartographic analysis and the application of geotechnologies, with emphasis on the use of QGIS software. The Serra das Melancias is a residual granite massif that is part of the Borborema Province, specifically in the Piranhas-Seridó River Domain. In addition to its scenic value for the municipality of Ipueira/RN, the massif is important because it represents a refuge for local fauna and flora. Recognizing the importance of geoenvironmental knowledge in defining the carrying capacity of environmental systems and in establishing legislation aimed at occupation, conservation and preservation of the environment, this study proposes two strategies for preserving the Serra das Melancias: the creation of Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs) and the implementation of geotourism. Considering the lack of studies on the Serra das Melancias, this research aims to serve as an initial reference for future studies and research that will deepen understanding of the geomorphological and ecological aspects of this or similar massifs.
