2019. 40f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Odontologia) – Departamento de Odontologia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/39109INTRODUCTION: In order to compare the shear strength of metal orthodontic brackets to ceramic surfaces with different surface treatments and adhesives is of utmost importance, as this clinical procedure still poses a major challenge for the orthodontist. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 90 ceramic specimens were divided into 3 groups according to surface preparation (9% hydrofluoric acid etching, 35% phosphoric acid etching & 9% hydrofluoric acid etching + diamond-tipped roughing) and in 3 subgroups according to the adhesive system used (1-Transbond XT®, 2-Single Bond universal® and 3-Assure®). A bracket was bonded with Transbond XT® resin and photoactivated with the VALO® device. The shear bond strength test was performed with a universal testing machine and the results analyzed using the two-way ANOVA test and the Tukey post-test. Bonding failures were classified according to the Remnant Adhesive Index (ARI) and analyzed descriptively. RESULTS: No statistically significant differences (p = 0.1292) were found between the different types of adhesives. The type of surface treatment chosen significantly (p = 0.0483) affects the bond strength of porcelain. The protocol with phosphoric acid presented lower absolute values of resistance than the other groups. CONCLUSION: The groups with hydrofluoric acid as surface treatment, associated or not with asperization, showed significantly greater differences in shear bond strength values compared to the group treated with phosphoric acid.
