Caracterização geológica de rochas carbonáticas no Núcleo Arqueano São José do Campestre (RN), NE do Brasil. 2018. 59 f. Monografia (Graduação em Geologia) - Departamento de Geologia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Natal, 2018.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/34378The study area is located in the eastern portion of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, inserted in the geodynamic context of the Borborema Province in the São José do Campestre Massif (SJCM), which contains one of the oldest crustal segments recognized in the South American Platform, with archean (3,4-2,7 Ga) and paleoproterozoic (2,23-2,11 Ga) rocks. In the SJCM, there are metasupracrustal rocks, such as paragneisses, rare occurrence of carbonate rocks bodies, banded iron formations and different generations of metaplutonic rocks. This work aims to study a sequence of carbonate rocks (called in the region as Serrote Preto) as to its geological and petrographic aspects, which are still little known. Therefore, the focus of the work involves the definition of the genesis of those rocks, since there are interpretations that define them as carbonatites (magma generated in the upper mantle) or marbles (sedimentary protolith). In order to fulfill with the objective, an initial bibliographic survey was conducted, followed by interpretation of remote sensing images, field activity for sample collection and structural data, besides petrographic descriptions. The study allowed to classify the carbonate rocks of Serrote Preto as metacalcars, probably affected by the deformation events D2 - which resulted in the recrystallization of carbonate grains, formation of new mineral associations and a low angle structure - and later by the deformation event D3 (Neoproterozoic). This event, in turn, resulted in folding of the S2 foliation generating a fold macro of the antiform type with folding axis NNW-SSE plunging to NW. The presence of a granite intrusion syn- a tardi-D3 that occurs by truncating the S2 foliation, demarcates the intensification of hydrothermal processes, marked mainly by carbonate veins that cut these rocks. The orthogneisses of the Serra Caiada unit probably constituted the basement on which the carbonate mud was deposited in a post-Archean shallow sea.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Maciço São José do CampestreArqueanoRochas carbonáticasCaracterização geológica de rochas carbonáticas no Núcleo Arqueano São José do Campestre (RN), NE do BrasilbachelorThesis
