Considering that this group of patients needs specific treatments according to their needs, the dental surgeon must be able to provide care that improves the oral health condition and also takes into consideration the individual as a whole. For this, it is necessary that the professional has sufficient knowledge, disposition and work condition so that he can perform his duties in the best possible way. Objective: Verify the level of knowledge of dentists in the city of Natal / RN on the care of patients with special needs. Methods: The study is an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study, with 51 dentists full of dentists in the Health Districts of Natal / RN, who agreed to participate in the study, from a universe of 96 professionals. Data collection took place in the first half of 2019. The data regarding questionnaire responses were inserted in spreadsheets elaborated in the Microsoft Office Excel app, from which the percentages were calculated and analyzed according to each question with the presentation in the form of graphics. Results: Among the interviewees, 51,92% classified their level of knowledge in relation to attending patients with special needs as being regular, 42,31% said they had a good knowledge in relation to the topic, 3,85% said they had a good knowledge, 1,92% rated it as lousy. In general, 65,38% of dental surgeons stated that they were not able to perform care for patients with special needs.
