The problem regarding over-consumption, waste, misuse of natural resources and improper disposal of waste are some examples of unsustainable development that can be related to the level of comprehension and perception of society concerning the environment. Environmental education is an important instrument to sensitize and train the general population about environmental issues. Thus, the aim of the research is to evaluate the environmental conception of residents from the Condominium Residencial Bairro Latino in Natal, RN, and prepare environmental education actions that might contribute to the proper management of solid waste and to conscious consumption. In order to gather strategies of actions more appropriate to solve the issue, it was used an descriptive research and qualitative and quantitative approach, in order to raise more appropriate action strategies to solve the problem, using as a technique the application of a questionnaire for data collection and subsequent analysis. As a result, the analysis indicated that residents still present an anthropocentric view of the environment, relating the natural environment to usefulness. Based on the survey of environmental perceptions, it was possible to identify the need to intensively work with residents in order to sensitize them to the effective involvement on environmental issues. The proposed actions aim to contribute to sustainable development, encourage new ideas and ways of resident’s participation in waste management, and show opportunities, which are apparently simple, but when well executed, provide a real gain for society.Educação ambiental.
