Part of the gravimetric composition of Brazilian waste is organic waste that, when anaerobically decomposed by bacteria, releases methane-rich biogas, one of the biggest villains of the greenhouse effect. However, currently numerous works are being developed in order to provide the energy use of this gas. In this context and in view of the need to renew Brazil's energy matrix, the country is considered a great power for useful energy generation through biogas. Thus, based on data on the amount of organic waste disposed of in the Aterro Sanitário Metropolitano de Natal and applying them to the Biogas, generation and energy use - Aterro 1.0 software developed by the São Paulo State Environmental Company (CETESB) in order to estimate the amount of methane gas produced in the landfill and the available power were estimated, which averaged approximately 23.5 million m³ / year and 19.9 thousand kW, respectively.
