Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Geografia) - Departamento de Geografia, Centro de Ensino Superior do Seridó, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Caicó, 2023.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/53744The present research sought to understand the socio-spatial context of Caicoense schools that had students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder - ASD, focusing on two schools, one located in the most central portion of the city, in the Penedo neighborhood, more precisely inside an installation military of the army and the other school located in the Paulo VI neighborhood, located in the West Zone of the urban space of Caico. Thus, in order to understand the problem presented above, research was carried out in official documents and scientific literature, which indicated, through different actions and strategies, the expansion of guarantees for the participation of students with autism in ordinary Brazilian classes. Among them, we can highlight the model of Specialized Educational Assistance (AEE), recommended by the National Policy on Special Education in the Inclusive Perspective and the support of the auxiliary teacher or therapeutic companion. However, during the field research in the mentioned educational institutions, it became evident that there were still many difficulties for the student with Autism to be included in a dignified way in the schools of the municipality of Caicó, since, in the school located in the most peripheral to the urban space of Caico, there are no AEE rooms for students with ASD. In this way, families responsible for students with ASD suffer from the lack of educational and social interest of the public authorities in Caico with autistic people, in addition to the lack of specialized care, which are fundamental aspects for these children to develop. Thus, it was concluded, based on the survey carried out above, that educators and school professionals are up to date on best practices in supporting students with autism.
