O uso do Método Pilates e sua ação no assoalho pélvico como terapêutica na incontinência urinária de esforço: uma revisão literária. 2019. 26 f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Fisioterapia) - Departamento de Fisioterapia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/35903The pelvic floor has the function of supporting the internal organs, such as the bladder and the uterus, and is responsible for controlling the continence of urine. The pelvic floor muscles need to be strengthened to perform their functions. A deficient or inadequate function of this musculature can present dysfunctions, such as urinary incontinence (UI). UI is defined by the International Continence Society as any involuntary loss of urine. UI is a very important social factor affecting more than 50% of postmenopausal women. This rate tends to increase each year due to rapid social development and sedentary lifestyle. UI has a high prevalence in females in Brazil, and deserves the attention of health professionals. The physiotherapy of the pelvic floor aims to improve the function of this musculature. Within this situation, the Pilates Method has been the most modern method for this purpose, besides being effective for the treatment of stress incontinence. Therefore, this literature review aims to present and discuss the results of studies that investigated the use of the Pilates Method for the treatment of stress UI. We found 6119 articles of which only 4 met the inclusion criteria for the study. The articles analyzed compare the effectiveness of the Pilates Method alone or associated with pelvic floor exercises. All studies showed statistically significant results. From the literature analyzed in this paper we can observe the importance of the Pilates Method as prevention and treatment of UI in women, presenting significant results for improvement of strength and quality of life.
