Since the year 1851, when it was designated for the schools of the city of court with the reform Couto Ferraz, new changes have been made, some of them very important like the opinion of Rui Barbosa on Project 224 - Reforma Leôncio de Carvalho - Decree nº 7.247, of April 19, 1879. However, in 1937, it is when Physical Education was an explicit reference in constitutionals texts, and from the elaboration of 1961 Constitution, it is when we have the first law that determined the mandatory of Physical Education for primary and secondary education – Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education - LDB. More recently, in 1997, another important document came in the perspective of trying to guide the pedagogical work of Physical Education - the National Curriculum Parameters - PCN'S. Already in 2016 we have a National Common Curricular Base that comes to try to improve the PCN’S and create a common curriculum throughout the country. Whether it is in the context of pedagogical conceptions of teaching, whether in the diversification of content taught in class, the fact is that has been noticed that the teachers have been using a little more of the many contents of Physical Education that were proposed in the PCN’S and the BNCC. Athletics is one of the contents that have been investigated in several states of Brazil about its use by teachers in their classes. A systematic review carried out in 2015 has shown that in the last 10 years, the number of teachers teaching athletics as content of the Physical Education curriculum component has increased. The general objective of this study was to investigate the real context of athletics content in Physical Education classes in Natal-RN public schools, verifying if the content was being used by teachers in their Physical Education classes and in what aspect this content could be used. It is characterized as descriptive research. The bibliographic research and the survey were the methodological paths followed to obtain the results of the research. The online questionnaire with 15 items was used, one part for the knowledge of the teacher and another for the knowledge of the teacher's performance and to know if the use of the content of athletics in his pedagogical practice was taking place.
