The treatment of migraine is related to clinical manifestations, aiming at pain relief, improvements in sleep quality, maintenance or restoration of emotional balance and improvements in physical conditioning. Combination therapy of amitriptyline, atenolol and flunarizine helps to improve symptoms. The drugs are prescribed for migraine patients who can purchase the same products in commercial pharmacies or can purchase them in compounding pharmacies, handled in a single dosage form. However, there are no studies on the compatibility of these drugs when combined, and there is no method for quantifying them in the same formulation. Therefore, so far there is no way to assess whether this association is compatible or may present some incompatibility from the thermal point of view that could make its solubility, dissolution and later bioavailability unfeasible. In this context, the present project aims to characterize the association of drugs amitriptyline, atenolol and flunarizine using thermal (DSC and TG) and non-thermal (XRD, MEV) techniques. The isolated drugs are presented in a crystalline state, with well-described forms based on XRD and MEV, while in thermal analysis endothermic events characterizing clear fusion and decomposition processes, binary mixtures maintain the state of crystallinity but thermal analyzes reveal the formation of eutectic compound as well as ternary mixing, together with the amorphization of the compounds.
