Comunicação visual na Biblioteca Central Zila Mamede na perspectiva dos alunos ingressantes na UFRN: um enfoque na utilização de elementos de wayfinding. 2019. 74f. Monografia (Graduação em Biblioteconomia) - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Centro de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas, Departamento de Ciências da Informação. Natal, RN, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/39736It addresses the importance of visual communication studies in university libraries focusing on the application of wayfinding elements. In this sense, it analyzes the wayfinding system adopted by the Biblioteca Central Zila Mamede (BCZM) and its impact on the information search behavior of entering students from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). For this purpose, a bibliographic research was carried out in order to elaborate the theoretical basis of the research, which made possible the understanding of the importance of wayfinding studies and their application in the context of libraries. In addition, with the objective of identifying the wayfinding elements present in the BCZM, a direct observation of the environment was carried out in which, to guide it, the wayfinding guidelines for university libraries proposed in this work were applied. As a result of this observation, none of the guidelines were fully met. This led to the conclusion that there is little application of wayfinding elements in BCZM. Finally, in order to understand the perception of entrant students in the UFRN regarding the quality of the wayfinding used in BCZM, questionnaires were applied to a random sample of 37 students enrolled in the undergraduate courses of the Centro de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas (CCSA), which entered the period of 2019.1. As a result, it was found that a considerable number of respondents do not feel able to conduct consultations without the assistance of other people, although the great majority affirm that the quality of the signaling employed is good or excellent, demonstrating that there is in fact an illusory perception of the main function of the signaling, which is to guide the user during his route.
