In this scenario, composites have been an important frontier in the search for solutions that reduce the cost of raw materials. In addition, growing concern with the environment has led to the search for materials with lower environmental impact, so that are sought composites that reduce the matrix used increasing the composition of materials with less impact. This work proposes the use of plaster, a material that is easy to obtain and low cost, as reinforcement / load in the manufacture of composites based on polyester orthophthalic resin. The processes of obtaining and characterizing mechanical, thermal and physical properties in the samples with a gypsum mass fraction in the 0-50-100% range were studied. The obtained composite presented inferior mechanical strength to the matrix in the traction, flexion and impact and superior thermal resistance to matrix. As expected, the composites had a higher water absorption index when compared to the matrix, given the characteristics of the gypsum. It has therefore been shown that the residues aggregated to the resin have the function of loading, and a small difference in the mechanical properties in the compositions 100-50% of load, which makes feasible the use of the same in its maximum composition, cost.
