Having established the theoretical bases of economic literature, and in particular, noting the meanings in which growth and development are usually used, we move on to the description itself. For a better analysis, it is offered by inserting the local economy into the larger context of the state and Brazilian economies, for this purpose data from IBGE and empirical literature are used. Therefore, it intends to show the main historical and economic events. The research problem is based on the issue of economic development, illustrating in the work whether there really was economic growth.
